1. I Will Always Write Back by by Caitlin Alifirenka and Martin Ganda

This book is the true story of an American girl named Caitlin and a Zimbabwean boy named Martin who get connected through a pen pal program. It is a very inspiring novel, and is recommended for children in 8th grade and up.

2. The Doughnut Fix by Jessie Janowitz

This tells the story of Tristan, who moves from New York City to a tiny town in upstate New York. When he hears about the town's famous doughnuts, which got discontinued, he decides to bring them back, but he doesn't know why the doughnuts were discontinued.

3. Beautiful Blue World bye Suzanne LaFleur

Mathilde is a 12-year old girl who has been recruited to serve the army, but isn't sure how. This takes place in a fictional world at war.

4. Wonder by R.J. Palacio

Wonder tells the story of Auggie, a boy with a deformed face, and his trials as he begins public school for the first time. It is one of the most popular children's books of the past few years.

5. Echo by Pam Muñoz Ryan

Echo is about many different people and the story of how a very special harmonica will change people's lives. It is delightful when listened to on audiobook because of the musical accompaniment.
