First Impressions

We know that first impressions matter. Other people, whether they be teachers, kids, or your friends' parents, will probably judge you based on their first impression of you. And you probably judge people the same way a lot of the time. We know we do. So here's a list of tips we've compiled to make a good first impression on people.

  • Smile. It automatically makes you seem more friendly and open.

  • Use good body language. Don't cross your arms, slouch, or fidget.

  • Make eye contact. This implies that you are paying attention to what the other person is saying. But please do not stare, people will not like a starer.

  • Ask questions. People like to talk about themselves, plus this helps you to get to know more about the person.

  • Listen. Everyone loves it when you actually listen to them, instead of just nodding and saying "uh huh", which help, as long as you are actually listening.

  • Make plans. If you like the person and want to get to know them, arrange to see them later, whether later is at lunchtime, after school, whatever. You'll seem very friendly because you are reaching out.
