Hey everyone! Today I am going to be telling a story about a time when my family and I went on a trek in the Himalayas for eight days. *I am in no way trying to complain about the road to the guesthouse I just was trying to get a vivid image into your brain so you can clearly know what we experienced* Now onto the story...
The first day we woke up at 5:00 am, ate breakfast quickly, and hopped in the car. We drove for a long while on roads difficult to describe, but I will try. Imagine this... our car does not have a four wheel drive, and it does not have off-roading tires either, Google maps labeled this road a highway. When we got five minute away from the highway, we realized Google does not really know it all, as we went from smooth black top pavement to paved roads that had potholes left and right which made you wish it wasn't paved at all, to sand and gravel, and even to muddy ruts that were deeper than our tires! We climbed up and down, up and down through the ridges of the middle Himalaya. At times we wondered if our SUV would make it all the way there. Once we got about thirty kilometres from the end of the road, which was where our destination was, we asked people how long it would take, they assured us that it was only and hour and a half away. As we drove closer, it became more common to see waterfalls and roads that are literally carved out of rock. Dad tried to dodge all the sharp jagged rocks, which could easily leave us stranded. We passed some vehicles, who were left patching their tires. Dad wondered if we would have the same fate. Yet, somehow we managed to make it to the guesthouse with air in the tires, where everyone rested up and got ready for the upcoming adventure. The plan was to catch a jeep ride up the hill, so that we could start the journey walking down hill instead of up, but none of the local jeeps were willing to be hired and said that only the crazy drivers with four wheel drive, from Kathmandu drove up there in their cars. So with only three hours of daylight left, We set off on what we thought to be a four hour walk...
Yes, I know I left you on a cliffhanger, but if you want to know what the rest of the trek looked like, then you will have to stick around to hear about the yaks, the beautiful views and the snow. I will be breaking the days of the trek into a couple of different articles, because this is a detailed story. I hope you have enjoyed reading this.
