Christ-Centered Life
Hello guys!
Martino is back!
How have you been? What are looking forward to in this month? Do you have a pet? What’s is its’ name?
Good. Now that we have chatted a little bit, let's talk about God.
You might remember that last time I wrote, there was a theme of looking into Gods’ never-changing character in an ever-changing life. Today, I am going to continue with this topic. Being Christ-centered is being someone constantly looks at God throughout his or her life.
The Cambridge dictionary defines the center as “the middle point or part”, or as [“to] be at the center of something”. I think that to truly understand how this works we must look at chess. When I was first trying to learn the strategies to this illustrious game, I was taught to capture the four middle squares of the board. As simple as it might seem, the consequences to this could be major. If someone had captured the center, especially with their non-rook pieces, they practically controlled the board; their pieces could move almost anywhere. In the same way that putting those chess pieces at the center of the board gives them more power, whatever you put at the center of your life will have lots of power over you and your life.
Whatever is placed in the middle will be what drives you. It’s your answer to “why?”. It’s the reason you are the way you are, and it’s the reason you get out of bed. Even though it might not seem like it, everyone has it, even if they don’t think they do. In fact, Jesus describes this
as having masters and continues on by showing what the consequences of not putting the Lord in the middle in Luke 16:13 (NET) “No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” Here, Jesus is clearly saying that whatever you put at the center, if it’s not God, will make you despise God. Even though it seems like Jesus is only talking about money, any word can be used to replace it in that sentence.
But, how do we do this? What does this look like in a day to day life? An easy way to do this is to meditate and just spend time in the word with God. It can look like reading a chapter a day or learning verses by heart. It is really anything where you are prioritizing God over other things. This is what it means to have something at the center of your life. It means to prioritize God over everything else.
So if you’ve ever thought about it or not, I want to challenge you to think about this question for a second: what is at the center of my life?
Prayer:
God,
I would like to pray for this person that they would just lift you up in praise and put you in the middle of their life, so that you may have control over their life. That they may trust you and get to know you more and more for the rest of their life. I pray that this person may have a great day and that they may experience your beauty.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Until next time,
Your friendly neighbour Martino
