Living for God: Dreams

Hey guys,

Today I will be starting a series of posts focused on living for God. I hope that you enjoy it and that it gets you thinking.

Ok, first of all, I am not talking about the strange dreams you have when you're asleep. No, I am talking about the ambitions and hopes that you want to achieve as a person. That could be anything like being an astronaut, a famous singer, the president/prime minister, or even a rich businessman/woman. My dream is to do acting in films or theatre; I have always loved pretending to be someone else for a while.

First, let's see what the Bible has to say about dreams and ambitions.

Colossians 3:23

"Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men."

Philippians 2:4

"Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others."

John 5:41

"I do not accept glory from men."

Right, so what those bible verses are saying is that whatever you do you should do it all for the glory of God, but then it also says do not just think of yourself but think of others as well. So, then should we follow our dreams?

Yes, and no.

The first thing that you have to think about is, are you trying to honor yourself or God? Will your dream help you share God's love with others and bring glory to him? Is your dream a selfish dream or will you be able to serve others?

The next thing to think about is, why do you want to achieve this dream?

Is it because you have always wanted to be famous and be on television (be loved by man)? Or is it because you have a big passion for maths and so you want to take your God-given talent and use it to teach children? Is your dream just something that you have thought about a little and have watched a few videos about it?

Finally, if you think that your dream is going to be a way to serve God then all you have to do now is talk to God about it. He is your heavenly father, and as you talk to your parents about your future dreams/career choices, tell Him all about it. Listen to see what He has to say. And don't immediately believe that that is your calling for the rest of your life because callings can change, and God may want you to do something else for Him.

I hope that you found that challenging and helpful too.

Have a great week,

Christina
