Ways to Get Outside

Hello, everyone! Where I am right now, it's getting much cooler outside, but I still want to be able to spend time outdoors and get some Vitamin D. Most of these ideas are pretty easy ways to spend time outside, whether warm or cold where you are!

- Have a movie night outside! If you have space to do this where you are, go for it! I think this would be really fun to do with friends. You can hang up a sheet in a backyard, or on a roof or large balcony (you can also use a blank wall) and project a movie onto it! If it is cooler where you are, feel free to pile on the blankets!

- Hike! My family loves to hike, and we do it in both our home country and our host country. We get to spend time together while enjoying God's creation and exercising our bodies. The hiking paths may or may not be 'official' where you are, and whether you hike for 45 minutes or go on an 8-day trek (yes, I've done that), it's great to get outdoors and hike with family or friends.

- Read a book. You can do this in a chair, on a laid-out blanket, or on a hammock (which I personally do not like to read on if there is a swinging motion because it hurts my head). If you need book recommendations, check out Kasey's here, Heather's here, Christina's here, and Aliana's here!

- Exercise outside. Whether you run, walk, do a bodyweight workout, or anything in between, there are many workouts that are super easy to do outside! You can follow a video workout outside on a mat or a towel, whether you're at a nearby park, on your roof/balcony, or in your yard!

- Look for stars and constellations. This one is at night, so it may be quite chilly, but if you can see stars and constellations, spend some time stargazing! It can be a good time for reflection of your day or for spending time with family. I know that sometimes it can be too polluted to see the stars in some cities, but I hope you get a chance to do this sometime!

- Eat outside! Whether it's having your morning coffee outside or planning a dun picnic with friends, you can always enjoy food outside. Some claim that all food tastes better outside... maybe we should test that out!
